Hyderabad, Jan. 23 -- Doctors at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, have successfully performed a laparoscopic-assisted Whipple's procedure on a 65-year-old woman from Eluru diagnosed with duodenal cancer, a rare gastrointestinal malignancy that accounts for less than one per cent of digestive tract cancers.
A hospital release on Friday said the patient and her family had been under severe emotional distress after multiple hospitals allegedly declined to perform the surgery, citing the complexity and high-risk nature of the procedure. With limited options left, the patient approached CARE Hospitals for treatment despite her poor health condition.
