Mysuru, Aug. 26 -- Captain Abhimanyu, the iconic elephant who carried the golden howdah six times during the famed Mysuru Dasara celebrations, was accorded a ceremonial farewell at Veeranahosahalli in Hunsur taluk on Wednesday as the Gajapayana for the 2026 Dasara began.
The farewell marked the end of an era for the 60-year-old elephant, who will not be part of the Dasara elephant contingent this year as he has crossed the age limit prescribed for carrying the golden howdah.
Abhimanyu had successfully carried the Ambari for six consecutive Dasara celebrations and had emerged as one of the biggest attractions of the Jamboo Savari.
