Kolkata, Aug. 18 -- The Calcutta High Court once again expressed displeasure over the deployment of school teachers for census duties and questioned the census authorities over the decision.
Hearing a petition concerning the appointment of teachers for census work on Tuesday, Justice Krishna Rao asked whether the Centre had consulted the West Bengal government before deciding to involve teachers in the exercise.
The court also questioned the timing fixed for census-related work and asked why teachers were being assigned the duty during school hours.
The judge asked whether the census authorities had fixed working hours from 9 am to 4 pm and questioned how schools would function if teachers were engaged in census work during that period....
