Kolkata, Nov. 6 -- The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to submit an affidavit in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being conducted across West Bengal.
A division bench comprising acting chief justice Sujay Paul and justice Partha Sarathi Sen instructed the commission to file the affidavit by November 18, responding to issues raised in a petition seeking judicial monitoring of the revision process.
The petition, filed on October 31, had urged the High Court to oversee the SIR exercise and to consider extending the time frame for its completion. It also sought clarification from the ECI on the necessity of undertaking the revision at this stage.
