Kolkata, Aug. 20 -- The Calcutta High Court questioned a private bank over its decision to freeze Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee's personal bank account and block two of his credit cards without, allegedly, giving him prior notice or clearly stating the reason.

Hearing Banerjee's petition challenging the action on Thursday, Justice Krishna Rao expressed displeasure over the bank's handling of the matter and questioned why the MP was asked to appear in person for KYC verification when the process could be completed online.

Banerjee's counsel, Ayan Bhattacharya, told the court that the account and two credit cards were blocked without any prior warning or written explanation.
