Kolkata, May 18 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted interim protection to Falta Trinamool Congress candidate and strongman Jahangir Khan, directing police not to take any coercive action against him until the completion of the bypoll process in the constituency.
Justice Sugata Bhattacharyya ordered that Jahangir be allowed to contest the election and directed him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The court also said the interim protection would apply to all FIRs registered against him so far and would remain in force till May 24.
The matter will next be heard before the vacation bench of the High Court on May 26.
