Nagpur/Mumbai, July 13 -- : A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit has brought to light serious deficiencies in Maharashtra's government-run and aided student hostels, including poor infrastructure, safety shortcomings, financial irregularities and several hostels remaining non-functional despite receiving government grants.
The observations are part of the CAG's 2024 report tabled in the Maharashtra Legislature on July 10.
The audit covered the period from 2022 to 2024 and involved inspections of 18 government hostels and 21 government-aided hostels across the state.
According to the report, Maharashtra had 443 government hostels and 2,388 aided hostels as of March 2024, providing accommodation to 1.21 lakh boys and 40,543 girls....
