New Delhi, April 8 -- The union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for the Kharif 2026 season on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers, aiming to ensure affordable input costs for farmers amid fluctuating global prices.
Announcing the decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the subsidy will be applicable for the Kharif season from April 1 to September 30, 2026. "The tentative budgetary requirement for Kharif 2026 is approximately Rs 41,533.81 crore, which is about Rs 4,317 crore higher than the Rs 37,216.15 crore allocated for the Kharif 2025 season," he told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
