New Delhi, June 3 -- In a major push to combat air pollution in the National Capital Region, the union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a two-year scheme worth Rs 9,585 crore to facilitate the replacement of older, highly polluting trucks and buses with cleaner BS-VI-compliant and electric vehicles across Delhi-NCR.
Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme aims to accelerate the transition to cleaner transport technologies and significantly reduce vehicular emissions in one of the world's most polluted urban regions.
