Kolkata, Aug. 1 -- West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the state government has set a target of disposing of all pending applications under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) within the next six months.

The chief minister also indicated that District Magistrates (DMs) in the state would soon be empowered to process and approve CAA applications.

Speaking at a CAA certificate distribution programme organised by the North 24 Parganas district administration and the state Home Department at New Town, Adhikari said, "Like Gujarat and Rajasthan the union Home Ministry is expected to initiate the process of delegating legal and administrative powers to District Magistrates within a month."During the programme, citizensh...
