New Delhi, Aug. 17 -- India's Ayush Shetty pulled off a stunning upset at the Badminton World Championships in New Delhi today, knocking out reigning champion and world No. 1 Shi Yuqi in a thrilling Round of 64 clash, while PV Sindhu also advanced to the women's singles second round with a comfortable straight-game win.

The 21-year-old from Karkala, Karnataka, marked his World Championships debut in spectacular fashion, ending Shi's title defence with a 21-14, 13-21, 21-19 verdict and avenging three previous defeats against the Chinese star. Their most recent meeting came in the Badminton Asia Championships final earlier this year, where Shi won comfortably in straight games.
