New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on BRICS member and partner countries to integrate their payment systems, expand trade in local currencies and work towards making digital commerce more accessible across global markets.

Addressing the opening session of the BRICS Business Forum 2026 on Friday, Goyal highlighted India's digital public infrastructure and pointed to the rapid expansion of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). He said UPI now processes more than 250 billion transactions annually and accounts for over half of global transaction volumes.

Goyal said UPI is already accepted in 11 countries and urged BRICS nations to explore greater integration of their respective payment networks.
