Mexico City, June 30 -- Brazil needed a stoppage-time winner while Paraguay and Morocco prevailed in penalty shootouts to book places in the World Cup round of 16.

In Houston, Casemiro and Gabriel Martinelli scored second-half goals as Brazil recovered from a goal down to beat Japan 2-1 on Monday.

Japan went ahead just before the half hour when Kaishu Sano intercepted Danilo's errant pass and ran from near the halfway line before unleashing a 20-yard drive into the far corner.

Brazil equalized through Casemiro, who headed in at the far post after Gabriel Magalhaes' cross. Martinelli completed the turnaround in the 96th minute, latching onto Bruno Guimaraes' through ball and beating goalkeeper Zion Suzuki at his far post.
