Mumbai, Sept. 9 -- The Bombay High Court on Wednesday came down heavily on Palghar police in Thane district for allegedly failing to act with due promptness in the investigation into the assault of medical staff at a private hospital by a group of Shiv Sena functionaries.

Warning that the case could be handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch if the local police were unwilling to pursue it seriously, a division bench comprising Justices A S Gadkari and Kamal Khata termed the alleged police inaction "unacceptable" and questioned the authorities over the delay in taking effective steps against those accused in the September 5 incident at the Relief Hospital in Palghar.
