Mumbai, July 30 -- The Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to initiate criminal action against citizens who repeatedly dump garbage in public places.
The court observed that the irresponsible behaviour of citizens not only puts additional pressure on the civic administration but also causes serious damage to the environment. It stressed that strict enforcement of existing laws and stringent preventive measures are essential to address the problem effectively.
A division bench comprising Justice Girish Kulkarni and Justice Aarti Sathe issued the directions while hearing petitions related to persistent foul odour and gas emissions from the Kanjurmarg dumping ground.
