Lakhimpur Kheri(UP), Sept. 6 -- A boat carrying 20 villagers capsized in the Sharda River near Nauwapur Ghat in the Nakaha police station area of Lakhimpur Kheri today. The villagers were on their way to a weekly market across the river when the boat collided with an incomplete bridge pillar, got damaged and overturned.

Upon hearing cries for help, nearby locals rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue effort using ropes and wooden planks. Eighteen people were successfully rescued. However, a man identified as Kailash (40) and his 15-year-old daughter Seema, both residents of Nauwapur village, were swept away by the river and remain missing.
