Dhaka, Nov. 2 -- Responding to the Jamaat-e-Islami's "baseless claims" that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is seeking to delay polls by creating last-minute political controversies, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir slammed the hardline Islamic group, accusing it of misleading the public by spreading misinformation ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Speaking at a rally of freedom fighters at the Jatiya Press Club on Saturday, Alamgir refuted the Jamaat's allegations, stating that the BNP has never once sought the delay of polls, and alleged that in fact it was the Jamaat which sought to derail the polls, reports Daily Star.
