Nagpur, Sept. 4 -- A powerful explosion at Solar Explosives plant in Bazargaon, about 40 km from Nagpur, shook the region shortly after midnight, leaving one dead and five workers injured, four of them critically, officials said.

The blast, which occurred around 12:34am in the company's PP-15 unit, claimed the life of 25-year-old supervisor Mayur Ganveer, police sources said.

According to company officials, five workers sustained burns and were rushed to a private hospital in Nagpur, where three of them are reported to be in a critical condition.

The explosion caused extensive damage to the explosives unit building, sources said.
