Chandigarh, March 20 -- The Bharatiya Kisan union (Kadiyan) has called upon the Punjab and union governments to legalize and regulate the cultivation of poppy (opium) and open government-authorized outlets for the sale of poppy husk and opium.
This demand was raised during a high-level meeting of the union held in Khamano, Fatehgarh Sahib, where state president Harmeet Singh Kadiyan addressed the media regarding the state's deteriorating social and agricultural landscape.
The union argued that transitioning toward a regulated natural drug system is now a necessity to shield the youth from the lethal impact of synthetic narcotics, commonly known as 'Chitta'.
