Bengaluru, July 7 -- The Congress on Tuesday mounted a sharp attack on the BJP and the Election Commission of India over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise was being used to delete between 5,000 and 10,000 voters in every Assembly constituency ahead of the next state elections, including Karnataka.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh claimed the BJP's "real objective" behind the revision was to manipulate electoral rolls to gain an advantage in the Karnataka Assembly elections, which are due in about two years.
