Kolkata, Nov. 7 -- With an eye on the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal is preparing to launch a year-long campaign celebrating the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram' and its creator, Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.

The initiative will highlight the song's historical and cultural significance, which the party says has been neglected by rival political forces.

State BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya said 'Vande Mataram' inspired generations during India's freedom struggle but accused the Congress, Left, and Trinamool Congress (TMC) offailing to give due respect to either the song or Bankim Chandra's legacy.
