Hyderabad, March 24 -- BJP Telangana State President N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict concerning Scheduled Caste (SC) reservations and the constitutional status of individuals who convert to other religions, calling it a "historic victory for the spirit of the Constitution."In a statement, Rao said the apex court's decision upholding an earlier ruling of the Andhra Pradesh High Court reinforces the intent behind reservations envisaged by Dr B R Ambedkar for the upliftment of marginalised sections within the Hindu fold.
He noted that the court has clarified that claiming the same social status and reservation benefits after religious conversion is unconstitutional.
