Latur, Jan. 16 -- Despite registering sweeping victories across much of Maharashtra, the BJP has suffered a significant setback in the Latur Municipal Corporation elections. The Congress has taken a clear lead in Latur, while the BJP has slipped far behind.
Observers believe the setback is largely linked to a controversial statement made during the campaign by BJP state president Ravindra Chavan about late chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
