Kolkata, Oct. 9 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hasi Rani Rath on Friday won the Nandigram Assembly by-election by a record margin of 1,22,800 votes, surpassing West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's previous victory margin in the constituency and prompting him to hail the result as a historic mandate for the party.
"I had told everyone while I was on the campaign trail in Nandigram that she (Rath) will win there by a margin that will surpass my margin of 82,000 votes," Adhikari said on Friday at the state secretariat Nabanna.
