Srinagar, July 19 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday postponed its proposed Secretariat Gherao march in Srinagar in view of the devastating flash floods that have caused widespread destruction and loss of lives in Rajouri and Poonch districts, saying the priority at present should be humanitarian assistance rather than political activity.
Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, announced the decision during a press conference in Srinagar.
The protest, scheduled for July 20, was to begin from Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk and culminate at the Civil Secretariat. Sharma said the party had decided to defer the programme after reviewing the situation arising from the flash floods.
