Guwahati, May 4 -- The ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on course to record its third consecutive victory in the Assam Assembly polls, sweeping the elections and decimating the Congress and its allies, according to vote count trends on Monday.

With trends available from all 126 seats in the northeastern state, the NDA was in a commanding position in 98 seats, while the Congress-led Asom Sonmilito Morcha (ASM) candidates were leading in 26 constituencies. Two All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) candidates and one from the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) were also maintaining leads over their opponents.
