Kolkata, June 22 -- Close to two months after the BJP came to power in West Bengal, ending the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule, the state government on Monday unveiled a series of major announcements in its first budget, focusing on employment generation, employee benefits, welfare expansion and infrastructure development.

Presenting the 2026-27 Budget of 4.38 lakh crore in the Assembly, finance minister Swapan Dasgupta announced one lakh government jobs, a 20 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state employees and a 33 per cent reservation for women in the recruitment process.
