Bengaluru, May 3 -- Karnataka Congress suffered a twin political setback on Saturday, just ahead of the counting of by-elections to two Assembly seats, after losing a sitting MLA seat in a dramatic recount at Sringeri and the disqualification of Dharwad MLA Vinay Kulkarni following his conviction in a murder case.

In a major reversal in the Sringeri Assembly constituency, sitting Congress MLA T D Raje Gowda lost the seat by a narrow margin of 52 votes to BJP candidate D N Jeevaraj after the recounting of postal ballots ordered by the Karnataka High Court.
