Ranchi, May 19 -- Bharatiya Janata Party Jharkhand unit president Aditya Sahu on Tuesday defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and accused the Congress of opposing the exercise for political reasons.
Addressing the media, Sahu said the SIR was a "regular and constitutional process" carried out by the Election Commission for revision of voter lists and inclusion of eligible voters.
He alleged that the Congress was opposing the exercise to protect "fake voters" and accused the party of attempting to mislead people over the issue.
Sahu said similar revision exercises had been conducted several times since Independence and claimed most of them took place during Congress-led governments at the Centre.
