Thiruvananthapuram, July 13 -- A BJP councillor, currently under judicial custody, will take the oath of office inside the Viyyur Central Jail in Thrissur on Tuesday following the Kerala High Court's decision, making it the first time in the history of Kerala's local self-government institutions that an elected representative will be sworn in from inside a prison.
R. Sugathan, the BJP councillor elected from Ward 20 in Thiruvananthapuram city, will take the statutory oath at 11 am in the official chamber of the Viyyur Central Jail Superintendent. The Returning Officer will personally visit the prison to administer the oath.
