New Delhi, Oct. 11 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party today accused the Congress of spreading misleading information among the public regarding the death of a youth after he was beaten by a crowd in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Baby Rani Maurya, addressing a press briefing here, said the youth who has been identified as Hariom Valmiki from Fatehpur district was beaten to death on the night of October 1 at the Unchahar police station area in Raebareli.

She said that at around 1 am, villagers mistook Hariom for a thief, caught him, and brutally assaulted him, which resulted in his death.
