Agartala, May 28 -- After more than a year without a state president, the BJP national president has appointed 44-year-old MLA Abhishek Debroy as the head of the party's Tripura unit for the next three years.
A pharmacy graduate, Debroy was first elected as an MLA from the Matabari constituency in the Gomati district in 2023. He succeeds Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, whose term ended early last year.
Bhattacharjee had continued in the role as the party faced challenges in identifying a suitable successor. Party insiders revealed that internal factionalism within the state BJP delayed the appointment process.
