Shimla, May 15 -- BJP has accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of denying Scheduled Caste women the democratic right to contest Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) elections through a "controversial notification" issued after the poll process had already begun.

Addressing a media here on Friday, BJP state media convener Karan Nanda alleged that the Congress government was misusing administrative machinery to influence PRI elections and weaken democratic institutions.

He said the Panchayati Raj election process began on April 29 after the announcement of elections, while nomination filing commenced on May 7. Voting for different phases of the elections is scheduled for May 26, 28 and 30.
