Hyderabad, July 21 -- BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday alleged that the Congress government was imposing an additional financial burden on the poor and middle class through the proposed Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) Act and the Indiramma Housing Scheme.
Addressing a press conference at the party's state headquarters here, Rao claimed that the government was using taxes, deposits and application fees to "extort" people under the guise of reforms and welfare programmes.
He said the BJP had no objection to amending the 1955 Municipal Act to meet present-day urban needs, but alleged that several provisions in the CURE Act were aimed at increasing the financial burden on citizens.
