Bhubaneswar, May 16 -- Amid the prevailing fuel crisis in Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal on Friday alleged that a patient died after the ambulance carrying him reportedly ran out of fuel midway while shifting him from SCB Medical College and Hospital to a private hospital.

In a statement, BJD spokesperson and media coordinator Lenin Mohanty described the incident as "tragic" and said the fuel shortage situation in the state had become alarming.

The patient, a resident of Kendrapara district, was being shifted in an emergency vehicle when the ambulance allegedly stopped midway after running out of fuel, following which the patient died, the party claimed.
