Bhubaneswar, March 17 -- The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has issued show-cause notices to six of its MLAs for allegedly voting against the party's directive during the Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha held on March 16.

BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, in a letter addressed to the legislators, asked them to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them, including possible suspension from the party.

She also questioned why appropriate legal and constitutional proceedings should not be started against them on the grounds that their actions indicate they have voluntarily given up membership of the party.
