Ranchi, June 9 -- Leaders across Jharkhand on Tuesday paid tributes to tribal icon and freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his 126th martyrdom day, recalling his contribution to the struggle against British rule and his role in safeguarding tribal rights, identity and self-respect.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren offered floral tributes at Birsa Munda's memorial at Kokar and later at his statue at Birsa Chowk in Ranchi.
Speaking on the occasion, Soren said Birsa Munda continued to inspire people across communities more than a century after his death.
He said the tribal leader's struggle, ideals and sacrifices would remain a source of guidance for future generations.
