Patna, Oct. 1 -- Outlining the new provisions and arrangements for solid waste management in urban areas, Bihar coordinator of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Ranjan Kumar Choudhary on Thursday said that the new solid waste management rules, 2026 would be implemented in 264 urban local bodies.

He told news persons here that the new rules notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) seek to move away from treating waste merely as something to be discarded and instead promote its use as a resource, in line with the principles of a circular economy. The new framework emphasises recovering maximum useful material and value from waste and promoting scientific processing and resource recovery.
