Patna, Aug. 1 -- The Bihar government has set a target of bringing 255,081 hectares under sugarcane cultivation during the 2026-27 planting season to ensure adequate cane supply for the revival of closed sugar mills and the establishment of new ones across the state.
Sources at the Department of Sugarcane Industries said that a production target of 17.40 million tonnes of sugarcane has also been fixed for the season. The move is part of the state''s Saat Nischay-3 programme, under which the government aims to strengthen Bihar''s industrial sector by reopening closed sugar mills and setting up 25 new sugar mills.
