Patna, July 4 -- The Bihar government on Saturday approved a Rs 34.60 crore Sugarcane Mechanisation Scheme to promote modern farming practices, reduce cultivation costs and enhance the income of sugarcane growers across the state.

Announcing the scheme, Bihar Sugarcane Industry Minister Sanjay Kumar said that during the 2026-27 financial year, the government will distribute 3,218 modern agricultural machines and establish 80 new farm equipment banks (Yantra Banks). The initiative aims to improve access to mechanised farming, particularly for small and marginal farmers who cannot afford costly farm machinery.
