Bhujbal Backs Marathi Mandate; Welcomes Sule's Baramati Exit
Mumbai, May 1 ( UNI) Maharashtra's Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Chhagan Bhujbal, has strongly supported the government's decision to make proficiency in the Marathi language mandatory for taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers.In a statement here on Friday, he asserted that anyone living and working in the state must know the local language. He noted that when Marathi speakers move to other states for business, they learn the local languages there, and the same should apply in Maharashtra.Bhujbal remarked that if the government had focused on this issue earlier, such "compulsory" measures would not have been necessary today.He suggested that drivers be given at least one hour a day or one day a week to learn basic Marathi to facilitate smo...
