Chennai, Aug. 27 -- The Bhoomi Puja and the Foundation stone laying ceremony for theconstruction of Launch Pad and other infrastructure facilities was held at Kulasekarapattinamin the southern Thoothukudi district where ISRO was setting up India's second spaceport forundertaking Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) missons with a 500 kg payload capacity.
This facility would offer geographical advantages in India's space exploration endeavours.
ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan, senior scientists from VSSC Thiruvananthapuram, SatishDhawan Space Centre (Sriharikota), District Collector K Elambahavath, the DistrictSuperintendent of Police and other officials were present, ISRO sources confirmed toUNI.
