New Delhi, June 13 -- The Centre on Saturday highlighted the achievements of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, stating that the flagship initiative has evolved into a nationwide movement that is driving behavioural change, improving gender indicators and strengthening the protection, education, and empowerment of the girl child across India.

Launched on January 22, 2015, the BBBP programme was conceived to address the declining child sex ratio and combat gender-based discrimination.

The scheme is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education.
