Bengaluru, Aug. 8 -- In a major crackdown on suspected illegal immigration, Bengaluru Police on Saturday launched 'Operation Mukta', deploying more than 500 personnel in the Whitefield division alone to identify and verify suspected foreign nationals living across the city.

The high-intensity operation covered more than 30 locations in Whitefield and 15-20 locations in the Electronic City area, putting several labour settlements and temporary residential clusters under the police scanner.

Whitefield DCP Saidullah Advat said the operation was being conducted on the directions of the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and was part of a continuing exercise to identify suspected illegal immigrants.
