Kolkata, Aug. 1 -- : The West Bengal Health Department has suspended 11 blood banks from organising blood donation camps across the state with effect from August 1, pending an investigation into alleged irregularities in camp management and the suspected illegal trafficking of blood components.

The restriction, announced through an official notification issued on Friday, will remain in force until the inquiry by the State Blood Transfusion Council is completed.

The names of the 11 blood banks have also been published by the department.
