Kolkata, July 14 -- Nabanna, the West Bengal state secretariat in Howrah, today turned into a veritable fortress with thousands of riot police, equipped with batons, shields and tear gas shells standing guard to prevent the march of the dismissed untainted teachers and non-teaching staff demanding reinstatement of jobs in the state-aided schools across the state.
Official sources said the police were restricting vehicles' movement. The riot police has erected guard rails and put up barricades at all entry points to the state secretariat where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has an official chamber.
