Kolkata, Aug. 26 -- West Bengal's school education system faces a stark imbalance, with thousands of schools having no students while several thousand others are being run by a single teacher, according to the latest data of the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE ).
The state has 4,133 schools with zero enrolment, the second-highest figure in the country after the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
What is more striking is that 19,502 teachers are listed as being deployed in these schools, raising questions over the utilisation of human resources and public funds.
