Kolkata, May 14 -- West Bengal's BJP government has moved swiftly to signal its focus on employment generation, with state minister Dilip Ghosh announcing that a plan was afoot to recruit around 6,500 employees shortly to address acute staff shortages in various departments.

Speaking during a morning public outreach programme on Wednesday, Ghosh said discussions have already taken place with departmental officials and that a shortlist for the recruitment process had been prepared earlier.

"We have spoken to officials of several departments. A shortlist of nearly 6,500 candidates had already been prepared for recruitment. The process is now being readied," Ghosh said.
