Siliguri, Sept. 4 -- A worsening flood situation gripped West Bengal's Bhutni island in Malda district on Friday as the steadily rising Ganga breached a river embankment at multiple points, inundating vast stretches and threatening thousands of residents.
The worsening situation prompted Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to hold a video conference with the Malda district administration and review the flood situation. According to him, 19 villages have been badly affected and eight relief shelters have already been opened.
"Administration, MLAs and ministers are working together to combat the situation," the Chief Minister said, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to deal with the crisis.
