Kolkata, April 27 -- The campaign drums fell silent for the West Bengal Assembly elections on Monday ahead of the second and final phase of voting on April 29.

The heat and dust of the high-decibel canvassing, which began in the middle of last month, settled into the customary silent period at 6 pm.

In the second phase of the state Assembly elections, voting will take place across 142 assembly constituencies spread across seven districts - Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia and Purba Bardhaman.

The Election Commission has divided Kolkata into two separate electoral districts for administrative purposes.
